Each Sterling crane mat is purpose-built for heavy-duty applications, providing excellent stability and load distribution for cranes and other large machinery. Unlike standard timber mats, which vary in size and thickness, Sterling’s crane mats maintain a uniform 12-inch thickness and are constructed from dense hardwood or solid Douglas Fir timbers. This engineered consistency ensures exceptional strength, durability, and performance under extreme pressure, while narrow notches allow precise placement and 1-1/4″ diameter lifting bolts on both ends make transport efficient.

Each mat also includes countersunk nuts to reduce wear, flush-cut long bolts for a smooth, snag-free surface, and wax lumber paint on both ends for added protection. Crane mats are commonly used to stabilize cranes during heavy lifts—particularly in renewable energy (wind) projects—and are also widely utilized in oil and gas, electric utility, and civil construction for pipelines, bridges, and powerline installations.
