As Vice President of Commercial Operations, Steve Mizerany leads the effort to secure profitable ventures for Sterling. His role involves close collaboration with estimators, project managers, and account managers to define project parameters and enhance bid success. By fostering teamwork, Steve aims to develop efficient project scopes that align with financial objectives, ensuring healthy margins while delivering superior quality to clients. He also oversees forecasting by analyzing market trends and customer investment reports to anticipate mat requirements and optimize operations.

Steve earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama in 1994 and brings over 30 years of experience in the field. His career began with detailed design roles and evolved through sales and marketing. He spent a decade as a Project Manager before transitioning to business development, where he specialized in the power utility sector for the last 15 years. At Sterling, Steve applies the knowledge and processes from his tenure with leading global engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) firms to enhance the company’s approach to access solutions.

Steve joined Sterling at a crucial point in his career, driven by a desire to mentor and educate others. His goal is to share the tools, processes, and strategic insights gained from his extensive experience, empowering a broader team to contribute to the company’s growth. His focus is on imparting a comprehensive understanding of real-world challenges acquired over years on the design floor and overseeing projects.

Steve’s leadership style is characterized by active engagement, hands-on teaching, and coaching. He believes that being directly involved is crucial in a dynamic environment like Sterling. His approach emphasizes patience and guidance, aiming to support collective progress towards success.

Steve finds great fulfillment in coaching others, especially after 30 years in the field. Witnessing the success of his teams and aligning their efforts with the annual operating plan has been particularly gratifying. He is committed to advancing Sterling’s value proposition beyond a transactional approach, focusing on delivering substantial value in the utility space while prioritizing sustainability. Steve believes that sustainability often presents cost-saving opportunities alongside environmental benefits, reinforcing the value Sterling brings to the industry.
